Upper Perk Girls Softball U18 VIGs team had a rough week coming up against two powerful teams from Deep Run.
On May 29, the Tribe faced off against defending league champions Deep Run – Files team. After giving up three runs in the top of the first, the Tribe fought back scoring two, two-out runs. After watching the first batter strikeout, Mindi Gallagher came to bat and sent a two-strike fastball to left center for a double. Sara Good followed by working a walk and both runs scored on Gracia Curley’s double. Unfortunately, that was all the offense Upper Perk could muster as Deep Run scored several runs in the next six innings to take the game, 13-2. Gallagher and Curley highlighted the Tribes’ offense. Gallagher went 2 for 3 for the game and Curley went 3 for 3.
On June 3, Upper Perk faced off against the Deep Run – Knight team. The game started well as starting pitcher Meghan MacIntyre was able to retire the side in order in the first. The Tribe took over at bat and scored a quick three runs off of singles by Brittney Huber, Curley and Good. The wheels came off in the second inning as Deep Run piled up 10 runs followed by eight more in the third, leading to a 19-5 victory for Deep Run.
The Tribe looks to get back on the winning track on Monday as they take on Nor Gwyn at the Eagle AA field in Pennsburg along with games against Palisades at Palisades Middle School on Tuesday and North Penn at Schweiker Park next Thursday, June13.
