Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home Celebrates Improvements with Open House
Written by Kelly Chandler, Staff Reporter
2013-05-22
Carl Slonaker Jr., F.D. Supervisor at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home in East Greenville, stands next to the funeral home's new, computer-operated, state-of-the-art crematory housed in the new 1,000 square-foot addition.

Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, a community fixture for more than 120 years, is now offering customers the most up-to-date options in funeral and cremation services.

A 1,000-square-foot addition was recently completed at the business’s 222 Washington St., East Greenville location. It houses a new, computer-operated, state-of-the-art crematory. It is the only crematory in the Upper Perkiomen Valley.
Carl Slonaker Jr., F.D. Supervisor, said the nearly $500,000 investment will help the funeral home accommodate an expanding customer base.
“We did this expansion for two reasons,” said Slonaker. “One to address the changing trends in funeral service. Families today want to do things differently than the way their parents and grandparents did things.
“Secondly, many of the improvements, some seen and some not seen, are to protect the health and welfare of our most prized possessions, our dedicated employees.”
The facility also underwent an expansion of and renovations to their preparation room including the installation of a fresh air exchanger, new refrigeration units for those people preferring refrigeration rather than embalming, and a lift system, which Slonaker said will help protect employees from injury.
Bathroom facilities were also expanded to be fully handicap accessible and additional fixtures were added to allow for larger crowds.
“We want the people of the Upper Perkiomen Valley to have all the amenities they might find in a larger city funeral home right here with the personal and friendly service they have become accustomed to,” Slonaker said of all the improvements, which he noted should carry the funeral home for many years to come.
The public is invited to an open house at the funeral home, to see the crematory addition, which is now officially in use, and the other renovations on Thursday, May 30, from 4-7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
