Three $5,000 Scholarships Available for Veterans Seeking Entrepreneurial Opportunities
The Collegiate Consortium in conjunction with the Department of Defense is offering three $5,000 scholarships to qualifying veterans to participate in Montgomery County Community College’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies program at its Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell.
The scholarships are available to veterans, National Guard or reserve troops who were called to serve under Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom. Applicants must provide a copy of the DD214 Report of Separation to establish eligibility.
Each $5,000 scholarship will allow the recipients to enroll in the Certificate in Entrepreneurship program in the fall 2012 semester. The 12-credit program includes courses in Entrepreneurial Essentials, Marketing, Accounting and Business Plan preparation.
This program prepares students to launch and/or grow a successful business, large or small, profit or nonprofit. By the end of the semester, students will have the skills and knowledge to identify and pursue viable business opportunities, develop a sustainable marketing plan, understand accounting procedures, develop a business plan and demonstrate the soft skills of a professional business person.
In addition to the Certificate in Entrepreneurship, the scholarship covers the rental fee of an MCCC incubator office for 12 months. Veteran students will have access to all the necessary amenities to efficiently operate their business, including a modern office, phone with voicemail, computer with Internet access, copy machine, resource library and the use of a conference room and reception area.
Additionally, as part of the incubator, veteran students will receive an array of free support services, including legal, accounting, marketing and technology consulting. Representatives from the Small Business Association and SCORE also are available by appointment to answer any business questions and provide direction.
