On September 15, the Lower Frederick Board of Supervisors authorized the advertisement of an ordinance restricting truck traffic on the segment of Smith Road between Centennial Road and Game Farm Road.
Several months ago, a traffic study that supports truck restrictions was performed by Traffic Planning and Design and the traffic engineer from Artisan Land Company.
Township ordinances define a truck as any three- or four-axle truck and all tractor-trailers. Signs indicating the restriction will be posted at the intersections of Smith and Centennial roads and Smith and Game Farm roads.
The township received three quotes for exterior building cameras capable of recording video, the lowest being $36,723 from Harris. The township's camera budget is $33,000. Funds for the cameras would be drawn from the general and sewer Funds. Township Manager Jason Wager is exploring the possibility that additional funds for the cameras may be available through the township's insurance carrier.
The cameras would be installed outside the front doors of the township building and police station. An interior camera will cover the township building foyer. Additional cameras may be installed at the township sewer plant and other buildings in the future.
The township also received three quotes for the door entry project, the lowest being $14,521 and $427 per key fob from Harris. The township's budget for the door entry project is $18,455. Door entry key fobs would be installed at the front door of the township building and at the front and rear doors at the police station. A decision will be made at the next board meeting.
At their August 4 meeting, the board authorized the purchase of a trailer from TP Trailers Inc. for $5,500 as requested by the Park and Recreation Committee. After the meeting, public works contacted TP Trailers and learned that the trailer authorized for purchase was no longer available. A comparable trailer was available for $5,800. The trailer was needed for Community Day and had to be purchased before the next board meeting. Township staff found the trailer to be extremely useful and amended the authorization previously granted for the purchase of a trailer, increasing the amount authorized from $5,500 to $5,800 retroactive to the date of purchase.
The board retroactively authorized the use of the Lower Frederick, Limerick and Upper Salford Fire Police at the Movie on the Mountain, held on Friday, September 18. The event was sponsored by the township Park and Recreation Committee. Wager submitted formal requests to Limerick and Upper Salford.
Supervisor Marla Hexter praised the township's first annual Community Day, held Saturday, September 12 at the Perkiomen Valley Middle School West and adjoining Peace in Zion United Church on Big Road. Hexter thanked township staff and police for their hard work and the church for their generosity.
Hexter expressed hope that Community Day will be even bigger and better next year.
