Dr. Joseph Bernard Schaefer, 83, of Bechtelsville, PA, passed away at home on June 17, 2026.  

            Born on October 1, 1942, in Glen Cove, NY, Dr. Schaefer grew up on a dairy farm in New Jersey. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis in 1968.  In 1974, he founded Old Cutler Animal Clinic in Miami, Florida, where he devoted many years to caring for animals and serving the community. 

            In 1997, Dr. Schaefer semi-retired, sold his practice, and moved to Pennsylvania.  While continuing to provide veterinary care for family, friends, and neighbors, he also established a Christmas tree farm.  He found great satisfaction in working the land, tending the trees, caring for his animals, and enjoying the rewards of farm life.

            Dr. Schaefer is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Nan; his son, Joseph (Elaine); his daughter, Jana (Scott); and his two granddaughters, Alexandra and Samantha.
