The New Hanover Township Police Department seeks the public's assistance in its investigation into a burglary of a home recently damaged by fire. Chief Jay Ciarlello described the July 24 incident as especially disheartening, considering the significant damage the house absorbed two days earlier.

            At 10:10 a.m., officers responded to the residence on Stacie Drive for the reported discovery of a burglary. While the home was unoccupied – following a July 22 blaze that caused significant damage that forced the residents to relocate – someone unlawfully entered the residence and stole irreplaceable personal property, including jewelry and other sentimental belongings, according to information provided by Ciarlello.

            The department asks anyone who has information on the incident – or observed any suspicious activity around Stacie Drive near the time of the burglary, between 8 p.m. on July 23 and 9 a.m. on July 24 – to contact police at 610-327-1150 or by email at police@newhanoverpa.gov.

            "Even the smallest piece of information could be valuable to our investigation," the chief wrote in an email message.

            At 12:39 p.m. on July 22, the New Hanover Volunteer Fire & Rescue Services was dispatched to the same home for a dwelling fire. The blaze reportedly started in the roof, according to a post on the company's Facebook page.
