Upper Perkiomen Valley residents did more over the Fourth of July weekend than watch fireworks. Several were forced to contend with closed roads and power outages due to multiple storms.

            In Pennsburg, the entire borough lost power for approximately 12 hours, according to Wayne Stevens, its emergency management coordinator. He said the municipality utilized generators to maintain its traffic lights.

            "I consider the borough very lucky," Stevens said. "The reason I say that is because I did not hear that anyone got hurt. This could have been a whole lot worse."

            Power in Pennsburg went out around 7 p.m. on July 3. Stevens claimed the storm caught him and the municipality's two power providers, PPL and PECO, by surprise.

            Multiple East Greenville residents spent an extended time without electricity over the weekend. According to Council President Alison Palmer, power was out from the evening of Friday, July 3 into the following morning. The following night, approximately 200 homes lost power, according to her estimates. Multiple trees and large branches came down, including one that fell on a house on Jefferson Street.

            Fallen trees and downed wires forced several roads in Upper Hanover to close over the weekend, according to Manager Anne Klepfer. She wrote that Soffa Road was impacted the most.

           All roads have been reopened, according to the manager. She wrote in an email message received Tuesday that the township's road crew continues to inspect roadways, chip tree debris and repair damage. 

           Downed trees and wires affected traffic in Marlborough Township. Impact from the storm forced the closure of Upper Ridge Road, between Perkiomenville Road and Green Street, along with Reihman Road, between Hoppenville and McLean Station roads, into Sunday, according to the department's Facebook page.

            Heavy wins created some damage in Red Hill, including temporarily knocking out power, according to Manager Liz DeJesus. However, she wrote that the rain caused no issues.
