Perkiomen's American Legion baseball team opened its season with a dominant victory over Plumstead over the weekend. The team needed only five innings to post a 13-2 victory on Sunday, June 7.

            The Indians (1-0) made the most of nine hits and five walks by three Plumstead pitchers to breeze to a victory at Allohaken Park in their Bux-Mont League opener. Grayson Sabo posted a team-high three hits and drove in two runs.

            Post 184 features several key players from the Upper Perkiomen team that captured the District One Class 5A title. The team, managed by Pete Schramm, is looking to return to the Region 2 Tournament for the first time in two seasons.

             The roster features only three different players: Alex Blose, Cole Pierce and Anthony Curcio. Blose recently graduated from Pope John Paul II. Last month, the catcher and first baseman helped the Golden Panthers reach the Pioneer Athletic Conference title game. He started and batted sixth in their 6-3 win over Upper Perkiomen in a semifinal playoff game on May 7.

            Pierce, a 2025 Upper Perkiomen graduate, started at third base and scored two runs. Curcio, a rising sophomore, played for the Upper Perk Braves last season.

            Ben Godshall and Zane Saeger each scored three runs and stole two bases for Perkiomen, which utilized an 11-run rally in the third inning to build a 13-0 lead. Godshall contributed two hits and drove on two runs, while Saeger added two hits.

            Three Indians pitchers allowed two earned runs on four hits and five combined walks. Starter Jack Rieg tossed two shutout innings, allowed one hit and two walks while striking out two.

            Jonathan Lewis allowed one run over two innings of relief. Jackson Long worked the fifth inning.

            Jordin Dice delivered a two-run double during the decisive third-inning rally. Two more scored on Cole Pierce's fielder's choice. Stephen Mumford added a sacrifice fly. Jake Creneti worked a bases-loaded walk, scoring. Saeger and Godshall each delivered run-scoring hits.

            Sabo was recently selected for the Big 26 Baseball Classic in Harrisburg later this summer. The rising senior will compete with other players from Pennsylvania in a three-game series against a team of All-Stars from Maryland at FNB Field, from July 30 to Aug. 2.

            The event – designed to mimic a typical minor league baseball series – includes games in the minor league home of the Harrisburg Senators, a Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

            Post 184 was scheduled to resume its schedule on Wednesday, June 10, against Hatfield-Towamencin at School Road Park in Hatfield Township. The following day, it will host Quakertown at Bonekemper Field.
