On Tuesday night at the Bally Borough Council meeting, Council President, Glenn Mutter, called for a moment of silence for former Bally Borough Police Officer, Kristen Yeager, 42, who was killed on the evening of May 29th in the line of duty.
Officer Yeager was responding to an emergency call for service from an adjacent police agency. Her vehicle left the road, rolled into a ditch, and struck a tree in Earl Township. She served with the Central Berks Regional Police Department for 2-1/2 years.
Prior to her service with Central Berks Regional Police, she was employed as an officer for Bally Borough for 2-1/2 years. Officer Yeager was the mother of 3 children. Members of the audience at the borough meeting mentioned what a lovely person she was. The Berks County community paid tribute to her with hundreds gathering in Reading along Penn Avenue to honor her. Governor Josh Shapiro ordered flags flown at half staff as a tribute to her service.
Matters concerning the borough pool were a topic of discussion with the borough council. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning 4th Street, Park Place, will have its driveway cracks repaired and roadway sealed. Residents who will not be able to park on the street cannot park in the pool parking lot overnight. The borough tries over the course of three months in the summer season to make money to support the pool. The residents can park in the borough's Lions parking lot unless the lot is full. Then, residents must find parking elsewhere on the street. Parking on the Lions' lot is from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. until road work is completed.
The borough pool opened on Monday, June 1st. No one will be permitted to swim if the outside temperature is 70 degrees or under. Additionally, there will be not swimming if the water temperature is 70 degrees or under. It is considered too dangerous for vulnerable individuals. Members can go to the pool, but cannot swim if it is too cold. Recently, the borough maintenance crew painted the pool.
On August 29th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a family field day for Boy Scout Troop 586 in the borough park and pavilion. The Boy Scouts have provided insurance to the borough for the event. They have obtained a special event permit and will remove any trash that accumulates from the event. Councilman Josh Sloan noted the BARDS sponsored bake and car wash were a great success.
Bally Borough provided tax funds in the amount of $20,000 to the Eastern Berks Fire Company and an additional $20,000 tax dollars to Bally Ambulance. Bally Ambulance calls for May were 162. Eastern Berks Fire Company had 43 calls in May. The borough lifted its burn ban.
The borough paid FW Houder, the contractor for the addition to the municipal building, the amount of $45,150. It is expected the work on the addition will be completed by the fall of 2026.
The borough requested the developer of 1606 Main Street that is located in Washington Township provide an engineered drawing for its sewer system. Sewer and water will be provided to the age restricted development by Bally Borough.
The borough Halloween Parade is scheduled for October 19, 2026. The borough office will be closed on July 12, 2026.
