Ruth Alberta "Ruthie" Voorhees
2026-05-29

Ruth Alberta "Ruthie" Voorhees (née Geisenhoner), 94, passed peacefully surrounded by love on May 17, 2026.

Born December 27, 1931, in Millville, New Jersey, Ruthie belonged to a generation defined by grit, resilience, kindness, and quiet strength. Raised in a family rooted in music and education, she developed a lifelong love of piano, literature, philosophy, and the arts.

After marrying her beloved husband, Carl Voorhees, Ruth embraced Pennsylvania farm life with unwavering devotion. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and perseverance while raising three daughters and managing the demands of poultry farming, crops, horses, tractors, hayfields, and family businesses. Through every season of life, she carried herself with grace, determination, and optimism.

Known for her warmth, wisdom, and generous spirit, Ruth had a gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Even through nearly two decades of surgeries and health challenges, she faced each day with courage and remarkable positivity.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, and is survived by her daughters, Carla Gaugler, Diana Voorhees O'Neal, MD, and Martha E. Voorhees; grandchildren, Keith Bieber, Samantha O'Neal, and Tyler O'Neal; great-grandchildren, Sloane Carrington O'Neal and Crystal Bieber; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.

A private interment will be held June 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Palm Schwenkfelder Church in Palm, Pennsylvania, where she will be reunited with her beloved Carl. A Celebration of Life will be held in Cape May, New Jersey, during the first weekend of October 2026.

Ruth leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, music, perseverance, and unconditional love that will continue to live on through all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions toward planting trees in Ruthie's memory and supporting causes close to her heart, including Labrador Retriever rescue organizations and Alzheimer's research.
