Regional police departments aren't for everyone.
Municipalities have different needs and wants. Defining them can be a difficult task and merging them even harder. And, there is the cost to consider.
The voters elected their local representatives, who must do their best to represent them. Sometimes "no" is the proper answer to some questions or offers.
But, sitting down and sharing views and opinions is a good thing. While you may find out that some things are good, you can also find out that some things are bad.
Perhaps having cross-municipal meetings with officials (or representatives of) on occasion are a good way to air shared problems and solutions. What one municipality is doing well may work in another.
Who knows, shared conversation may lead to a better understanding of each other's issues. It doesn't have to be a one-issue meeting and doesn't have to be held on a recurring schedule.
Just an opportunity to get together and air good things and not so good things with others who may be experiencing the same thing or see it coming up in the future of their municipality.
A regional planning commission works for regional planning. Use the same concept as another means of inter-municipal communications.
It wouldn't be a meeting to make decisions but to learn and share things that can be brought back to their own municipality's public meeting.
I know, it's another meeting and you already have a busy schedule. If it is a burden, officials can take turns going to the sessions. You don't want everybody from the municipality to go to the same meeting (that would be a violation of the Sunshine Act).
It would be an opportunity to talk and listen to your elected neighbors who share the same responsibilities that you do.
