The incident that occurred outside the White House Correspondence Dinner on Saturday sparked another round of he-said, she-said.  Who did it, why did the attack happen, was security adequate, was security lax, and so on?

            But what seems to be happening the most is the finger-pointing on social media, especially by elected officials.  Perhaps their use of profane language is supposed to make them sound tougher.  It doesn't.  It feeds a political extremism that could lead to violence.  Don't we have enough of that now?  Tell us what you have done for the voters and what your plans are if elected.  Don't muddy the waters with your bile and belligerence.

            I won't vote for you just because I like or dislike the same person you like or dislike.  They're not trying to get my vote; you are.

            Too many are trying to make points for the upcoming midterm election in November.  Will their vitriol work for them or against them?  If you think they are being harmful or spiteful, the simple solution is to not vote for them and not to send them any campaign contributions.

            Are comedians' jokes just that or are their words inciting others to violence?  Every gaff is not a call to arms and neither is their ignorance or insensitivity.  The simple solution is don't watch.  Turn the channel.

            People seem to have developed thin skin and we must all re-learn how to be stronger than those who try to incite us.  We must grow thicker skin and function within ourselves.  Hate begets hate and violence never gets the job done.  You may win one victory but lose yourself along the way.  Many have lost their way and can't seem to find what they once had – dignity.

            Don't let the keyboard warriors or social media influencer wannabes get under your skin when they post their words expressing their own irritability and trying to raise yours.

            Don't feel the need to strike back at them because most of them thrive on the back-and-forth of an internet argument.

            That reminds me of when teenagers years ago would finish a phone call, they had the inevitable back-and-forth; you hang up first, no, you hang up first, etc.
