Tribe Track Splits with Upper Merion
Written by Staff Report
2026-04-15

Upper Perkiomen's track team split a Pioneer Athletic Conference meet with Upper Merion last week. Thomas Daub, Darius Reid and Grayson Riggins led the Indians boys to a 109-41 victory at Keeny Stadium. Each posted two first-place finishes on Wednesday, April 8.

Daub, a sophomore, won the 800-meter in 2:03.33. He finished first in the 1,600-meter run (4:35.27).

"Several of our distance runners are well ahead of schedule," coach Clayton Mowrer said. "They are close to qualifying for districts, which is not easy."

Thomas Daub edges out Hudson Etezdy in the 800-meter

run against Upper Merion.

Reid won the 100-meter dash (11.32 seconds). The junior cleared 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump.

Reid is pushing himself in the high jump, according to Mowrer. He said the athlete is looking to clear seven feet, which would put him in contention for a state championship.

Riggins swept both hurdle events. The senior won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.05 seconds and posted a time of 38.31 in the 300-meter hurdles.

The standout senior has returned to top form, according to Mowrer. The coach described him as one of the top three or four hurdlers in the state.

"Grayson has been phenomenal," Mowrer said of Riggins, who broke his own school record in the 110-meter hurdles this season.

Riggins is close to breaking 14 seconds in the event, according to the coach. Mowrer described the time as a significant threshold.

"He really hasn't been pushed in the event so far," the coach said.

Sean Donahue added a first-place finish in the 3,200-meter relay (10:02.73) for the Indians. They won two relays, the 400-meter (48.94) and the 3,200-meter (8:53.95).

The Tribe delivered six victories off the field. Caleb Izzi and Ethan Zola tied for first place in the long jump by clearing 17 feet, 7 1/2 inches.

David Flud won the triple jump (33 feet, 8 1/2 inches). Justin Maciolek cleared 11 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault.

The team finished first in three throwing events. Gabriel Good tossed the discus 109 feet, 11 inches. Chase Shanafelt threw the javelin 140 feet, 10 3/4 inches. Cael Martin won the shot put (39 feet, 1 inch).

The girls lost 76-74 to Upper Merion. Six girls earned individual first-place finishes during the Pioneer Athletic Conference match on Wednesday, April 8.

Paige Long won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:48.7. Adrianna Albert did the same in the 200-meter dash (28.36 seconds). They also finished first in the 400-meter relay (54.86 seconds) and 3,200-meter relay (11:23.5).

On the field, the Indians won four events. Maya Pierce cleared 4 feet, 7 inches in the high jump. Lauren Coates posted a distance of 28 feet, 3 inches in the triple jump.

Morgan O'Hara threw the javelin 136 feet, 5 inches.  Olivia Guffey covered 29 feet, 7 inches in the shot put.

Overall, four javelin throwers are close to qualifying for the District One Class 3A Championships, according to Mowrer. He said he expects multiple other throwers to compete in the event on May 15-16 at Coatesville High School.
