Conditioning has played a significant role in the regular-season success of Upper Perkiomen's girls wrestling team, according to head coach Mark Smith. He claims it could be crucial to their postseason accomplishments.

Last week, the Indians completed their undefeated run during the Pioneer Athletic Conference with a victory over Perkiomen Valley. Eight forfeit wins carried them to a 60-10 victory on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
The Tribe (6-1 overall, 5-0 PAC) won two of the four competitive matches during its season finale. Godshall and Cannon both won by fall in the first period.
At 112 pounds, Brianna Godshall needed only 57 seconds to deck Olivia Rosales. At 118, Alexandra Cannon pinned Emma McKalein in 64 seconds.
Alyssa Crist and Sadie Marino lost at 142 and 148 pounds, respectively. Crist (14-16) dropped a 15-3 major decision to Hayden Tschoepe, Marino (4-9) got pinned by Janaya Diefenback midway through the second period.
The Tribe's priorities shift this weekend to the District 1/12 Tournament. William Tennent is hosting the event on Saturday.
Three seniors will make their final run at qualifying for the PIAA Class 3A Championships. Keyra Seville, a two-time regional qualifier, may be the most likely to get there.
Classmates Cannon and Charlotte Pierson could also be poised for a deep run, according to Smith. Adria Page, a junior, will be looking to build on her sixth-place finish last season at districts.
A quintet of ninth graders – Godshall, Marielle Becker, Abigail Landis, Nevaeh Mojica and Leila Lopez – are hungry to make their mark, according to the coach. He claims the key to tournament success is being able to ignore pressure "and just let it fly."
Becker and Godshall are all tied for the team lead with 23 wins. Seville is one win behind.
Seville (22-9) has the most experience. The 100-pounder, a two-time regional qualifier, finished fourth at districts last year.
Cannon (20-12) will be looking for her first district medal at 118 pounds. She is five victories short of 50 career wins by pin.
Paige (20-9), who has wrestled most of the season at 155 pounds, finished sixth at Districts in 2024-25. Forty-seven of her 53 career victories have come by pin.
Godshall (23-9) enters the postseason with wins in her last eight bouts at 112 pounds. Seven of those victories have come by pin.
At 124 pounds, Pierson (18-13) has won four of her last seven bouts. Two of her three losses during the stretch have come against returning district qualifiers.
"Charlotte is in a really tough weight class for her," Smith said. "She has shown great leadership."
Smith is more than pleased with the season. "I couldn't have asked for a better first season," Smith said. "The girls have done a real good job about picking things up."
