Bally Borough Council, on Tuesday night, discussed street issues along the borough's narrow roads. The council decided to request the health, safety, and welfare committee to review the current street and parking ordinances in the borough.
It is expected that the committee will discuss solutions to parking problems in the borough, as it can be difficult to navigate the small and narrow roads at any time of the year, and driving after a snow or ice storm can be a harrowing task. Parked cars disrupt passage to the point that only one car can use the road at a time. Accumulated snow piles impede travel for pedestrians as well as motorists.
The committee will need some time to study the issue. Council suggested residents be courteous to other motorists along the street.
Discussions with Bechtelsville Borough concerning the coordination of mutual zoning ordinances are ongoing. In the meantime, Bally will make no changes to its comprehensive plan.
Council agreed to increase its payment to F.W. Houder from $303,570 to $310,840 for construction of an addition to the municipal building. The addition will provide more space for the police department to operate.
Representatives from the Bally Hotel requested permission, which was granted, for street closures near the hotel to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day. There will be a Saint Patrick's Day celebration on Friday, March 13, Saturday, March 14, and Tuesday, March 17. The hotel will host a band from 6 to 10 p.m. with a DJ until midnight.
