There weren't many contested races in our region but that didn't matter much as voter turnout was high for the general election that featured judicial, municipal and school board races.

            Montgomery County reported over 50 percent turnout – a record for the county.

            One of the most-watched questions on the ballot was the retention of three of Pennsylvania's Justices of the Supreme Court.  All three, Christine Donohue, Kevin M Dougherty, and David Wecht won by a nearly two-to-one margin.

            In Berks County, 38 percent of the voters cast their ballot.  For the three-way battle for two seats in Region 1 of the Boyertown Area School District, Democrats Michele R. Wiley and Republican Matthew J. Weir will take the seats.  For a contested seat in BASD Region 2, Democrat Jason Szczurowski eked out a victory.

            In a seven-way race for four seats on the Upper Perkiomen School Board, Monica Oswald, running on the Democratic and Republican tickets, won in a close race that saw just 460 votes separating the highest and lowest vote counts.  Coming in second was Democrat Paige Konopelsky, filling out the third and fourth seats will be Republican incumbents Melanie Cunningham and Keith McCarrick.

            In the closely watched battle for Marlborough Township supervisor, Republican Burt Shive eked out a win over Democratic incumbent Brian Doremus.  The margin of victory was four votes (660-656) with Doremus taking 260 out of 391 write-in votes.

            In the race for East Greenville mayor, a strong mail-in effort will see Democrat incumbent Stephen Everett Wescott return with a win.

            Pennsburg had five candidates seeking four seats on the borough council.  Democrat Eileen Fields was the top vote-getter, followed by Republican incumbent Michael Mensch, Brian F. Kilpatrick, Jr., and Republican incumbent Keith Goodwin.

            Bucks County, with a voter turnout of 49.6 percent, had Timothy M. Johnson coming out on top for a seat on the Milford Township Board of Supervisors. Republican Joseph Sroka won the election in the race for auditor.

            In the race for two positions on the Quakertown Community School Board, Republicans Todd Hippauf and Ronald Jackson won the four-year term in Region 1; the two-way race for an open seat in Region 2 saw Geoff William coming out on top; and the race for the seat for a four-year term representing Region 3 had Democrat Roberta Roberts winning.

            In Trumbauersville, four Republicans won seats on the borough council: Stephen Spor, Allyson Goodin, Christopher Betz, and Robert Hyde.

            Five candidates were running for three seats on Quakertown Borough Council.  The results show Democrats David Wilsey, Mae Wear, and Republican Donald E. Rosenberger coming out on top.
