R. LaRue Emmell
2025-09-17

            LaRue Emmell, formerly of Red Hill, PA, passed away peacefully 

surrounded by her family at Frederick Living on September 16, 2025 at age 90. She was the wife of the late William "Pete" Emmell.

            She was born in Norristown to the late Rebecca "Reba" (Evans) and Williard Haines.

            LaRue graduated from Saint John the Baptist High School for Girls (Class of 1953), Manayunk, PA, and Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She also earned a B.S. in Nursing from Gywnedd Mercy University and a M.S. in Nursing from St. Joseph's University.

            LaRue's compassion for pregnant women, mothers, and infants manifested throughout her professional career in pediatric and birth services. She provided instruction in maternity at Sacred Heart Hospital School of Practical Nursing, served as a Public Health Nurse with Montgomery County Health Department in Pottstown, PA, and was certified as a birth doula through Doulas of North America. She provided family services for adolescent parents through Child, Home, and Community of Abington and served as a board member of Community Health and Dental Care for Montgomery County. LaRue also established a chapter of the Elizabeth Ministry at St. Philip Neri Parish where she was a faithful member.

            She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Mary Schmidt; Kathleen (Joseph) Vuotto; Rosemarie (Michael Daly) Hood; Eileen (Glenn) Davis and Jane (Rick) Greiss; two-step children: Donna (Charles) Wiegle; and John Emmell; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marie Daly and sister, Marilyn Poole.

            A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 11 a.m.at St. Philip Neri R.C. Church, 1325 Klinerd Rd., Pennsburg, PA 18073. Viewing will be from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
