The pickleball courts in Macoby Run Park in Upper Hanover Township have become a much-used amenity. Not all are, however, enthusiastic about them.
A group of Woodbridge Lane residents attended the board of supervisors meeting on Tuesday, July 8, to express their dismay about noise and other issues with the courts.
The residents reported that play on the court starts early, before the 8 a.m. opening, with players circumventing the timed lock on the gate. According to the residents, players have used leaf blowers to dry the courts, contributing to the noise. Additionally, players have also brought radios with them.
The residents also stated that commercial pickleball clinics are being held at courts without the knowledge or consent of township officials. The supervisors asked that the residents send in any advertisements or Facebook posts they see about these clinics.
The residents are requesting that acoustic fencing be installed on the courts. Township Manager Anne Klepfer stated that she would investigate independent sound testing now that the courts are open and being heavily used.
In road news, the supervisors authorized the purchase of a Gator utility ATV for $25,585 and posting the old Gator on Municibid for sale.
The supervisors reversed an earlier decision about the Comcast Franchise Agreement negotiations and decided to retain the services of Cohen Associates to perform an audit for the fee of $7,400.
They also approved a budgeted expense for an asset management and work order GIS mapping system with Traisr, for $10,000 for data migration, portable setup and training, with a monthly annual cost of $1,260.
Klepfer reported that PennDOT had informed the township that work on the bridge on Church Road over the Perkiomen Creek would start next summer and would involve a detour.
