With the restoration of electrical service from a power outage earlier in the day and a break in the storms early on Tuesday evening, the Hereford Township Supervisors were able to hold their July 1 meeting.
Facing a light agenda, officials were able to get through all the business items in 45 minutes.
Township Engineer Jennifer Van Dyke announced the improved signage has been installed along Route 29, just south of Route 100, and along the Route 29 entrance and exit from the Wawa store located there. The upgraded directional signage will warn drivers of no left turn from Route 29 (Gravel Pike) into the store and no left turn from the store onto Route 29 when exiting the store. There have been numerous traffic mishaps at the location. The signage is larger and intended to be better seen, and hopefully obeyed.
Van Dyke also reported that the Berks County local share grant (LSA) is currently open. Submissions are due on Sept. 30 and officials and the community should be thinking about projects that may qualify for funding.
Officials plan to review a draft ordinance regarding supervisor compensation at their next meeting on Tuesday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. The supervisors desire to take action on the ordinance at their August meeting.
Supervisors also granted a waiver of fees and paving, requested by the Hereford Fire Company, for installation of a "Fire Station Refilling Area". The 20-foot stone driveway, just off Kriebel Road and near the Perkiomen Creek, will allow for fire apparatus to access the creek for water during fire emergencies.
Officials approved Township Secretary/Treasurer Hannah Edwards attendance at the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) Secretary/Manager Summit to be held in the Lehigh Valley on September 8 and 9. The township office will be closed for both days, however, emails and voicemails will be checked.
