Milford Twp. School Plans Athletic Facility Expansion
At the Milford Township Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, June 3, land development plans were presented to the board for approval. Both project plans were approved as long as they continue to comply with engineering and legal guidelines associated with the township.
Faith Christian Academy, located at 2255 Allentown Road, requested a waiver of land development. The school is expanding its athletic fields and replacing its track and soccer fields. In addition, it is planning to construct a field house to accommodate events. This would also be rented out to outside organizations. This is one of the most important aspects of the project.
At the meeting, the removal of a tennis court, the installation of the field house, and stormwater management were discussed.
The revised plan was resubmitted to Pennoni Associates with zoning issues addressed. On May 29, a letter from Pennoni Associates was received stating that the project was now in compliance with zoning ordinances. However, Chairman John Mininger stated, "You still have obligations to the land development plan."
Brian Malachowski, a resident of Breisch Road, expressed concerns to the board about the project. He stated that he has observed traffic issues and disrespectful behavior from people attending events at Faith Christian. Malachowski explained that bringing in more traffic and events will make the issue worse.
"I'm all for what the school is doing. I just want a solution," said Malachowski, who also stated that he has encountered "a wall" when attempting to communicate with the school about the issues.
Township Manager Jeffrey Vey acknowledged that there are issues with outside individuals renting the facility. He organized a meeting on Thursday, June 5, with Faith Christian, Malachowski and the township. Vey explained that they will discuss "commitments and follow through" as well as "lights, sounds and abuse to the neighborhood."
Resident Rob Fluck, who lives on Allentown Road, had concerns about the construction driveway situated close to his property and driveway.
Another project, Rotho Blaas USA, Inc, was also on the agenda for preliminary/final plan of land development. It includes the construction of a 96,427 square foot warehouse and office. This is a six-acre lot. This project, which has conditional use approval, has been in front of the board at previous meetings.
In the plan, truck access will be on Rosenberger Road with Route 663 improvements and proposed traffic flow changes pending. However, these are yet to be completely defined.
The project also includes water basins, stormwater remediation, and a vegetative green roof. The green roof is guaranteed to be maintained. The farmhouse on the property will be removed but salvaged for any material reusable for the project, especially the fieldstone. The structure is beyond the point of repair.
Lisa Gallager, a five-year resident of Crossings Way, expressed concern about the aesthetic nature of the project. The view from her home is directly facing the project site. "Please keep it nice…we want to work together," she said.
Gallager was assured that as the project progresses, the owner and developer of the project fully intends to keep the property well-kept and visually appealing, as well as maintaining a working facility for Rotho Blaas.
