James P. Standeven
2025-05-28

            James P. Standeven, 86, a resident of Pennsburg, PA, for over 20 years,

passed away Tuesday morning, May 27, 2025, at his home. He formerly lived in Harleysville, PA. He and his wife, Naomi (Swymelar) Griffiths, celebrated their second anniversary on March 9th of this year.

            He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna G. (Smith) Standeven, on July 5, 2008.

            Born June 4, 1938, in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Ivan and Martha (Brown) Standeven. He grew up in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, PA, graduated from Roxborough High School and attended Montgomery County Community College.

            An engineer, Mr. Standeven worked for several companies including Leeds & Northrup and Greene Tweed.

            Mr. Standeven was an active member of Church of the Holy Spirit of Harleysville, PA. He was a mason for 42 years and was a member of Shiloh-MacCalla Lodge No. 558 Free & Accepted Masons of Souderton, PA, serving as Worshipful Master in 1991. He was a competitive billiards champion and enjoyed golfing.

            In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Patricia Altuchow of Murrieta, CA; four grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Christopher and Zachary Fernandez; two stepsons, Andrew Griffiths and his wife, Carolyn, of Virginia, and Brett Griffiths and his wife, Susan, of Green Lane, PA; and a number of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Standeven; and a sister, Dorothy Fitzpatrick.

            Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, P. O. Box 575, 2871 Barndt Rd., Harleysville, PA, 19438, where friends may call from 9-9:45 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Union Cemetery in Hilltown, PA.

            For those desiring, contributions may be made in his memory to the church at the address above, or to Shriners Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, PA, at www.shrinerschildrens.org.
