Bally to Crack Down on Stray Dogs
Written by Mary Gibbs Kershner
2025-05-07

On Tuesday night, Bally Borough Council decided to get tough on irresponsible dog owners who allow their pets to roam loose.

The borough requested that residents who find a stray dog not bring the animal to the borough office. It is not equipped to handle a stray dog. Residents are urged to call Bally Police.

In the future, the borough intends to contract with a dog handler to collect stray dogs. If the borough can determine to whom the dog belongs, the owner will be fined. Dogs must have a dog license and be current on their vaccinations, especially their rabies shots.

Beginning in September, the borough will no longer accept cash payments for sewer and water bills.  After September only checks, money orders, or credit cards will be accepted. The municipality is in the process of setting up online payments for sewer and water bills.

Performance Pipeline received $114,930 as the second payment for its services.

North and South 7th Street, along with the 600 block of Elm Street, will be rebid for paving.  The previous bid was over budget.  It is expected that once a new bid is submitted only South 7th Street and the 600 block of Elm Street will be paved.

The borough will use Local Share Account grant funds to purchase playground equipment for the borough's park.  Swings are in place.  A sand digger, embankment slide, and a possible seesaw or climber are being considered.  It depends on how much space is available at the park for the playground equipment.

There will be a Boy Scout Water Fun Day on Aug. 23 at the park to promote scouting.

The Community Yard Sale will be held on May 16, 17, and 18.

Bally Area Recreational Development Society (BARDS) will hold a bake sale and car wash at the pool parking lot on May 17.
