On March 6, the Quakertown Business and Professional Women's Club held an "Unhappy Hour" at the Trolley Barn, Broad Street, Quakertown. This pay equity event was meant to share the disparity in the income a woman receives as compared to a man's income.
Supporting women in the Quakertown Community is the aim of the group.
The BPW members greeted community friends and shared the "Unhappy Hour" story, but, at the same time, they were in search of a "Rising Star" from the Quakertown Community. Individuals from the Quakertown area were asked to submit their applications to the committee chair, Crystal Smith.
The "Rising Star" was announced at the March 26th club meeting, held at Brick Tavern Inn, on Old Bethlehem Pike. Kristi Szabo, of New Wave Ministries, Quakertown, was introduced as the recipient.
Kristi shared that the New Wave Ministries supports young women who have aged out of the foster care system. The program provides them with needed support and education. She hopes that each young woman feels valued, supported and empowered to create her path through life.
President Melissa Wieand, Committee Members Diane Sodano, Esq., Crystal Smith and Nicole Pompano presented Szabo with a $500 check to use within her charity.
The Quakertown BPW is also conducting its Annual Paddle Raffle Event on Sunday, April 27, from 1 to 3:30, at Benner Hall. Tickets are $10. Call 215-285-1352 if interested. Great themed baskets, designer purses and lots of prizes can be won.
