David Eugene Proffit
2025-03-03

David E. Proffit, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away

peacefully in hospice on February 27, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Yukon, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Charlie and Virginia (Romans) Proffit.

David was a graduate of Big Cheek High School in War, West Virginia. He furthered his education and excelled in electrical school, laying the foundation for a successful career as in industrial switch gear in Aerospace and Gas, eventually retiring from Air Products.

David was deeply committed to his community. He held several leadership roles in Scouting at both St. Isadore Parish and East Greenville Troop 108. Although he wasn't a registered leader, he actively participated in Girl Scouts with Alison, sharing his outdoor skills with her troop.

David was also a dedicated member of St. Philip Neri Church in Pennsburg, where he was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His community service extended to being a member of the Red Hill Fire Police and a former Vice President of the Upper Perkiomen Valley Ambulance Association. Additionally, David played a key role in integrating the Upper Perkiomen Valley into the Perkiomen Watershed.

David was married to Mary Louise (Finkbeiner) Proffit for 52 cherished years. He is also survived by his children: daughter Alison Proffit of East Greenville; son, Brian Proffit, husband of Michelle and their children: Andrew and Samantha of East Greenville; daughter-in-law Debra of California City and children: Michael Proffit and wife Raylene and Steffany Proffit and great-grandchildren: Ezekiel, Zoey and Marina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Kevin Proffit and siblings: Naomi, James, Howard and Rodney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, PA 18041. Viewings will be held on Thursday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. and Friday morning 10-11 a.m.  Burial will be private.

Online condolences may be offered at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to The Open Link https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E344784&id=44 or Knights of Columbus, in memoriam of David Proffit, PO Box 3 East Greenville, PA 18041.
