The finger of blame and distrust seems to have permeated every level of government from the local level, through the counties, into the states, and inside the federal government.
Will the majority of the people ever trust any level of government again?
Yes, there are exceptions but they are far and few between. And yes, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents all share the "burden" of telling the truth.
No matter what the subject is, each side tries to out-protest the other. Sadly that often includes half-truths or outright lies. Today simple disagreements turn into outright hate-fests quickly. Discussion or attempts to understand each side of an argument no longer exist.
How can you understand or trust any members of any level of government if they will not share information with their constituents? There is a difference between sharing false information and refusing to share information at all. Both of those scenarios are bad and will do nothing to bolster the credibility or trust in the guilty elected official.
Exaggerations, untruths, and disregard for the rights of citizens by an elected official are a disgrace. The "none of your business" attitude has no place among officials. If you can't share information then be truthful and share the reason why with the people. They deserve that. If you didn't agree with other local officials, are afraid your group has made an illegal or bad decision, or have another good reason, share it with those who you represent. Or maybe your contempt for your constituents runs deep. If so, tell them and those who govern with you that you no longer want to be in your position and responsible to the people.
How can the people determine if you made a good decision if they don't know what you were voting on? How long will your secret be kept from the public? Why is it being kept from the public?
Lately, it seems that every time a tragic or controversial event happens anywhere in the world or in our own backyards, the finger of blame leaves the hand of politicians long before any facts are known.
The fastest seems to get the most clicks on social media or views on national TV, whether the information is true or not.
People want information in a timely manner. But, instead of getting it fast, I would hope that elected officials choose to get it right.
