Upper Perk Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab
2025-02-19

This February, during American Heart Month, physical therapists across the nation are highlighting the role of physical activity in maintaining cardiovascular health. With heart disease remaining the leading cause of death worldwide, physical therapists

are uniquely positioned to help individuals safely incorporate exercise into their daily routines.

Current guidelines recommend adults engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise weekly to significantly reduce their risk of heart disease. Physical therapists, as movement experts, play a vital role in helping individuals achieve these targets safely and effectively.

Physical therapy is particularly valuable for individuals with existing heart conditions, those who haven't exercised in a while, or people recovering from cardiac events.

PTs are specially trained to assess current fitness levels, design personalized exercise programs, and monitor progress while ensuring safety. They also work closely with the broader medical team to manage conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, or diabetes.

Cardiovascular and pulmonary clinical specialists are PTs who have received advanced training and experience. They offer specialized support for individuals with conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart disease, diabetes, and vascular diseases.

Physical therapists emphasize that improving heart health doesn't require extreme measures. Simple activities like neighborhood walks, gentle swimming, or light resistance training can make significant differences when properly guided.

For more information about physical therapy services for heart health or to schedule an assessment, please contact Upper Perk Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab at 215-679-0105.
