Among the reports and updates at the Monday night meeting of the Douglass Township Board of Supervisors, Police Chief Robert Evans requested that the probationary period for newly hired police officer John Peters be removed.
Peters has met the criteria for work as an officer in the township. The request was granted by the supervisors.
In addition, Evans asked for a conditional offer of employment for a new full-time officer. The hire date would begin on Jan. 6, 2025. The board authorized this offer. The name of the new officer will be announced at a future meeting.
Evans stated that there will now be 13 officers working in Douglass. Due to the increase in population and community needs, Chairman Joshua Stouch said, "We should probably be at 14 realistically, but we are not there budget-wise."
A resolution supporting the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial, an organization also known as America 250PA, was unanimously adopted by the solicitors. This plan was established in 2018 by legislation and the governor to develop the 250th commemoration of the United States and highlight the integral role that Pennsylvania held in the birth of our nation.
Stouch announced "potential openings coming up" to serve on boards and appointed positions. Interested residents are encouraged to inquire about these opportunities to serve their community.
Before the start of the regular meeting, an executive session was held to discuss personal matters. No decisions were made.
