Parking Restrictions Coming to Victory Drive in Washington Twp.
Written by Mary Gibbs Kershner, Correspondent
2024-11-27

Washington Township Board of Supervisors held a quiet business meeting on Thursday night.  The supervisors agreed that it will be necessary to draft an ordinance to limit parking along Victoria Drive.

The township intends to limit parking on the east side of Victoria Drive to the first house.  Currently, vehicles park along both sides of the road, particularly when the township park is in use.  It is a dangerous situation, made more so, because of the lack of site distance when vehicles exit the park.

Speeding along County Line was discussed by the supervisors again.  The township will move its speed monitoring device to County Line Road to remind motorists the speed limit is 35 mph.  It is hoped the speed monitoring device will cause some reduction in the excessive speeding along the road.  Additionally, the township will request the state police patrol County Line Road.

The township agreed to release escrow funds it had been holding to the developer of Spring Valley Village.  Spring Valley Village will provide a fee in lieu of paving Stauffer Road to the township for $36,837.  The township will require an 18-month maintenance security deposit of $1,950 from Spring Valley Village for the deceleration and acceleration lanes along Stauffer Road.

The township will require the property owner of 354 Hill Church Road to sign an indemnity agreement that holds the township harmless if the trees and shrubs planted by the property owner in the township right of way cause any damage.

To ensure the safety of the township waste water treatment plant an automatic gate will be installed at the entranceway.  The cost is $10,035.  It is expected that the electricity to power the gate will cost an additional $1,000.

The supervisors approved a sewer plant module for Roark Americana.  There will be a sewer holding tank outside the flood area on the property.  The holding tank must have an escrow agreement for maintenance of the tank for $1,200.  Roark Americana is located along Forgedale Road.

Washington Township Recreational Advisory Committee will become the Washington Township Parks and Recreation Board.  Members of the board include Mark Bedle, David Laxx, Tara Christman, and Dwayne Henne.  The members have staggered terms.  Park field agreements will be presented to the various sporting clubs that utilize the township fields.  Review and comment from the clubs concerning the agreements is expected by December 6th.

The supervisors agreed to permit Aiden McManus to build a kiosk replacement for his Eagle Scout project.

The township public works building is almost completed.  There are a few punch list items to finish.

Washington Township Board of Supervisors Chairman, Dave Moyer wished all residents of the township a safe and "Happy Thanksgiving."

The township will hold a workshop meeting, if necessary, on Thursday, December 12, at 7 p.m.

The next regular board of supervisors meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 19, at 7 p.m.  The meeting is one week early because of Christmas.
