Firefighters respond to a house fire on Walnut St. in Green
Lane during the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 17.
The second floor fire displaced four residents.

First responders arriving at the scene reported smoke coming from the second floor of the building. Green Lane Chief Ryan Crouthamel said that both duplex residents were evacuated when the firefighters arrived.
Firefighters used water from their trucks to put out the fire which was declared under control at 2:40 a.m.
The home suffered fire damage to a second-floor room and contents along with smoke and water damage in other parts of the structure. Four residents were displaced and eventually aided by the American Red Cross. The adjacent home suffered some smoke damage but remained inhabitable. There was no damage estimate immediately available. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Green Lane Fire Marshall Craig Wilhelm.
According to Montgomery County property records, the home is owned by the Secretary of Veteran Affairs in Nashville, TN.
In addition to the Green Lane Fire Company, units from East Greenville, Lower Frederick, Pennsburg, Red Hill, Tylersport, Upper Frederick, and Upper Salford fire companies assisted.
Emergency medical units from Upper Perkiomen Valley Ambulance Association and Plymouth Community Ambulance Association were also dispatched to the scene.
Portions of Gravel Pike and Walnut Street were closed while emergency personnel were at the scene. All roads were open at 4:20 a.m.
