2024 General Election
Written by Larry Roeder, Editor
2024-11-07

After capturing the majority of the popular and Electoral College votes, former President Donald J. Trump will re-enter the White House as the 47th President of the United States in January.  His victory over Vice-President Kamala Harris trickled down to help Republicans assume control of the U.S. Senate and maintain their control of the House of Representatives.

More than 140 million voters cast their ballots for this general election, with more than 80 million opting to vote early or utilize mail-in ballots.

While most voting locations in our regions experienced a morning backlog, voting assumed a normal pace as the day progressed.

In a close race for U.S. Senator for Pennsylvania, Republican Dave McCormick is holding a lead of 63,000 votes over incumbent Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr.

Area races for a seat in the United States House of Representatives have incumbent Republican Brian Fitzpatrick (256,900 votes) holding a lead over Democrat Ashley Ehasz (197,950 votes).  In the 4th District incumbent Democrat Madeleine Dean (263,300 votes) is holding off a challenge from Republican David Winkler (183,100).  In the 7th District, incumbent Democrat Susan Wild (195,000 votes) is trailing Republican challenger Ryan Mackenzie (200,500 votes).

Republican challenger Dave Sunday (3,367,000 votes) is topping Democrat Eugene DePasquale (3,025,000 votes) in the race for PA Attorney General.

For PA Auditor General, Republican Tim Defoor (3,361,000 votes) is defeating Democrat Malcom Kenyatta (2,982,000 votes).

Incumbent Republican PA State Treasurer Stacey Garrity (3,413,000 votes) held off a challenge by Democrat Erin McClelland (2,962,798).

Democrat PA Senator Judy Schwank (63,000 votes) will retain her seat in the 11th District after topping Republican Challenger Lisha Rowe (44,500 votes).

In the race for the seat in the PA General Assembly, District 70, Democrat Matt Bradford (20,460 votes) held off a challenge from Republican Ed Moye (14,440 votes).

Republican David M. Maloney (24,100 votes) will retain his seat for the 130th District in the PA General Assembly after a contest with Rayne Reitanauer (12,600 votes).  In the 131st District, Republican Milou Mackenzie (22,140 votes) held off a challenge by Democrat Meriam Sabih (15,800) votes.

`           Incumbent Republican Craig Staats (22,500 votes) will continue to represent the 145th District in the General Assembly after topping Democrat Vera Cole (15,600 votes).  In the 147th District, incumbent Donna Scheuren (22,100 votes) will keep her seat after besting Democrat Albert Leach (15,300 votes)

All results are preliminary until certified by officials.
