UPSD Resolves Bus Driver Shortage
Written by Bradley Schlegel, Staff Writer
2024-10-16

Issues related to a previous bus driver shortage in the Upper Perkiomen School District appear to be resolved. Last week, the school board approved an action item adding Anjione Bacon, Kathy Zepp and Lynn Vogelei-Musnuff to Krise Transportation's approved list for the current school year.

Since the start of the 2024-25 school year, the district has overcome a deficit of four drivers, said district spokesperson Alexis Jenofsky. She wrote in an email that the contractor has 67 eligible van and CDL bus drivers.

Krise is actively training several new CDL bus drivers, according to Jenofsky. She wrote that the district is optimistic about the direction Krise is heading and "proud of the fantastic team that Krise Transportation has built."

In personnel news, the members voted to approve the appointment of Michele Martin, an existing employee, as the administrative assistant to the superintendent, during the Oct. 10 regular meeting.

The board also approved an action item to renew a service agreement with a Delaware company to support onboarding new employees and volunteers in the amount of $4,000 for the current school year. The company, Boilerplate, Inc., is described as a cloud document management system and electronic signature platform for repetitive requests.

The members also voted to approve two student school representatives. Christopher Montes, a senior at Upper Perkiomen High School, and Ruth Padilla, a junior, were both sworn in by President Melanie Cunningham.

During his report, Superintendent Allyn Roche laid out the plans for this week's Homecoming ceremonies. A bonfire will kick off the festivities.  The community is invited to the event, scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17. Student organizations and food trucks will be included.

The Indians will take on Pottstown the following night in their penultimate regularly scheduled game at 7 p.m. on Oct. 18. The following night, the high school will host a Homecoming Dance for students only.

Member JP Prego did not attend the meeting which lasted 41 minutes.
