At Tuesday evening's board of supervisors meeting, Chairman Kevin O'Donnell announced that all residents now have water at the Baghurst Superfund site.
The remediation plan has been in process for over 20 years. "We are very excited to have it completed," said Vice Chairman Ted Poatsy, Jr.
The project should be completed in the next week when all the old wells are closed off and fire hydrants installed.
The next step will be to start remediation at the source of the contamination. Board member Richard Sacks explained that the cleanup consists of thermal remediation to treat source area groundwater and a process called chemical oxidation to treat groundwater hot spot areas.
Branch Manager Aileen Johnson, of the Perkiomen Valley Library, attended the meeting to give an update on the library's work and programs. She informed the board that, up to this point, the library has logged over 5,000 child reading hours and many programs and events are planned for the community. Johnson also thanked the township for assisting in repainting the handicapped parking spot.
The library has hired a new assistant branch manager, Ayanna Madison. "She has a lot of good ideas," said Johnson. In addition to its upcoming annual appeal, the library is actively looking into sources of state funding and submitting grant applications.
The township is hosting MGK's Big Bad Bonfire 2024. The event will take place at 757 Spring Mount Road, Schwenksville, on October 12th from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. There will be parking, food trucks and an outdoor beer bar. Tickets are also available for Scream Mountain's collection of haunted wood walks and hayrides.
Library Board Member Don Barrick asked the supervisors if the event will continue despite dry conditions. O'Donnell stated the event will continue.
On Wednesday, October 9th, a site evaluation by the township board and a fire company official took place to ensure the safety of starting a large bonfire.
