Milford’s ‘Ag Daze’ a Hit with the Community
Written by Jennifer Frieze, Correspondent
2024-09-19

Agriculture is embedded in our local community and to highlight this, Milford Township held its fun-filled Ag Daze on Saturday, September 14. Last year the threat of inclement weather kept the event from happening, but this year the weather provided the right environment for the community event's success.

This annual event has activities for everyone. With a focus on agriculture and local businesses, there was an assortment of local food and exhibits to enjoy.

The petting zoo provided by What-Not Farm was a big hit with kids and adults. The farm is located in Perkiomenville and offers a variety of programs. At Ag Daze, sheep, goats, rabbits and tortoises delighted visitors. Children and adults could interact with the animals, feeding treats and giving some love to lots of pets.

Logan's Heroes Animal Rescue and Last Chance Ranch were also at the event. Logan's brought along two adorable pot-belly piglets that also enjoyed the attention of attendees. They happily wagged their tails from all the attentiveness.

Weisel Farm, of Quakertown, had an array of fresh produce. They had

pumpkins, gourds, tomatoes and fall veggie plants. Located on Spinnerstown Road, the farm offers fresh produce, plants, and cut flowers. Awckland's Sugar Shack and Apiary had spreadable honey and several honey products. The apiary has about 200 hives located throughout Berks, Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton Counties. Their honey products can be found at several local businesses throughout Milford and Quakertown.

Hard cider was offered by Snicklefritz Cidery. Located in Coopersburg, and in conjunction with Pappy's Orchard, they make delicious homemade cider from locally grown and hand-picked apples. The cidery offers unique ciders and tasting events.

The Farm Bakery and Events had an assortment of delectable eats. The Farm Bakery is located in Quakertown and works out of a completely renovated barn.

The organization works closely with the township to assist in projects. In May 2023, Jerry Hertz, a member of the parks and recreation board, addressed the intense workload put on the public works maintenance crew and land steward Jon Roth. The solution was to organize a volunteer community group to help with a variety of projects. By June, they had six volunteers and their project was weeding and cleaning-up of the Molasses Creek Park Armed Forces Memorial. The next project is the Molasses Creek Butterfly and Pollinator Garden and future Arboretum walking trail.

Milford T-Force is membership based. They are always looking for community members to volunteer and help with projects. They also intend to attain 501(c) status. "This will greatly expand our ability to fund growth and contributions to our

community and the environment as a whole," said Jerry Hertz.

Ag Daze showcases the connection between agriculture, the community and environmental stewardship. The event does this by providing an educational and enjoyable family event.

If you missed this year, definitely mark your calendars for Ag Daze 2025.
