DA Announces Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation in East Greenville
Written by MontCo District Attorney Press Release
2024-09-15

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announces an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in East Greenville on Sept. 14, 2024.

At 8:08 p.m., East Greenville Police responded to a domestic-related call in the 100 block of Cherry Street after an 18-year-old called 911 to report a physical assault. Officers arrived to find a man barricaded in the basement of the home and threatening to harm law enforcement. Additional police from multiple agencies responded. Numerous attempts to negotiate with the individual were made by police. At 11:30 p.m., police officers breached the basement door to find the man armed with a machete and hatchet. He charged at police officers and refused police commands to drop the weapon. An officer attempted to taser the suspect, which failed to stop him. An Upper Perk police officer discharged his firearm, striking the man. Despite police officers rendering aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:05 a.m., Sept. 15, 2024.

Per protocol for officer-involved shootings in the county, Montgomery County Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. The names of the man and the police officer involved are not being released at this time.

This is an active investigation. Anyone with any information is asked contact Montgomery County Detectives at 610-278-3368.
