New Hanover Honors Five for Fire Department Service
Written by Candace Perry, Correspondent
2024-06-26

Fifty years of service to the community is an extraordinary feat.

Not one, but five fire department members were recognized for their 50 years by the New Hanover Board of Supervisors at its Thursday, June 20 meeting.

On the administrative side, Joan Moyer and Betty Webster were commended, and firefighters, Gary Moser, Joe Deitz, and Carol Slater-Kline were honored. Each received a certificate from the board.

Pennsylvania State Representative Donna Scheuren also attended to deliver certificates to the individuals in her district and on behalf of representatives in adjoining districts. She stated that the names of the honored would be read into the record of the PA House.

In road closure news, Township Manager Jamie Gwynn said that detour signs for the Sanatoga Road project would be going up on July 1, aiming for the start of work on July 21 or 22.

Additionally, the board approved a detour for the Rhoads Road culvert project which will follow Buchert Road to Route 663 to Bliehm Road. The detour would be posted two weeks before the start date and be in effect for the length of the project, approximately six to eight weeks.

John Paulick, of Advantage Environmental Consulting, was on hand at the meeting to discuss the removal of the old underground tanks at the Hickory Park Restaurant site. He explained that his firm had removed petroleum-impacted groundwater and had found contaminants from the old petroleum during removal.

The new findings resulted in a $13,000 expense requiring authorization by the supervisors. The supervisors approved the new costs.

The supervisors met in executive sessions to discuss legal matters and litigation prior to the meeting.

The next supervisors meeting will be on August 1.
