Upper Perk's Kiwanis Youth Legion baseball team continued its strong run through the Berks County League. With three recent victories, the team improved to 7-0 in the league.
On Monday, Benjamin Godshall pitched the defending state champion Braves to a 9-2 win over the Boyertown Bear Cubs at Bonekemper Field. He tossed six innings, allowing just one earned run and one walk while striking out three.
Liam Weiss paced a six-hit barrage with two singles and two RBIs. Grayson Sabo delivered two hits, while Nathan Schramm drove in two runs for the Upper Perk, which took advantage of four errors by the visiting Bear Cubs.
Leadoff hitter Benjamin Sands registered three of the team's five stolen bases and scored three runs. Callen Shantz added an RBI double for the Braves, who extended an early 1-0 lead with a five-run rally in the bottom of the third inning.
On Saturday, June 8, the Braves (10-4) rolled to an 11-1 road victory over Twin Valley. Grayson Sabo and Liam Weiss led them to the Berks County League six-inning win.
Sabo finished with three RBIs while going 2-for-2 at the plate. He also scored two runs.
Weiss tossed five shutout innings. He allowed just two hits and two walks, while posting one strikeout on 62 pitches.
Schramm delivered two hits, scored three runs and stole three bases for Upper Perk, which scored in five of its six at-bats.
Godshall and Adam Gavinski each posted two hits and drove in two. Zachary Adam stole two bases. Sands scored twice.
The team finished with 11 hits and stole 11 bases.
Sabo's continued hot hitting led the Braves to a 14-1 victory over Oley/Topton last weekend. He also pitched them to a five-inning win one day earlier.
Besides driving in five runs on three hits, including a triple, Sabo also went the distance on the mound. He scattered three hits and permitted just one unearned run while striking out seven.
Sabo's two-run single highlighted a seven-run rally in the second inning against the Post 217 Patriots.
Ryan Cairns finished with two hits, scored two runs and stole three bases.
Schramm scored three runs for Upper Perk, which registered 11 hits and stole nine bases. Schantz and Adam each scored two runs.
