A network server issue in the Boyertown Area School District led to an early end to the 2023-24 school year.
Problems with the district's heating and cooling systems, phones and intercom systems discovered last week forced the cancellation of the final two days of school, according to an email from Alison Moyer, its communications specialist.
The district's last day for students was Wednesday, May 29. Administrators closed all of its facilities for May 30, and May 31. Boyertown held its commencement for its senior class as scheduled on May 30 at the Santander Arena in Reading.
"This action is not taken lightly and is done out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our students and staff," Moyer wrote in an email message.
Administrators also cancelled graduation walks at the district's elementary and middle school buildings. They also cancelled World Language Finals and 8th grade project presentations.
Report cards for all grades will be delayed until further notice, according to the letter. It states that administrators will make arrangements for students to pick up any remaining items from school in the coming days. It asks students and parents not to visit the buildings until they have been notified of the district's plans.
Additionally, students are directed to log out of any district devices they have at home and perform a hard shutdown. The devices are to remain off and unused until further notice as a way to help administrators resolve the system issues more effectively and efficiently, the letter states.
