Three businesses will be allowed to serve alcohol during East Greenville's initial First Friday event of 2024. On Monday, council held a special meeting to approve three permit applications.
Simple Days Beer, the Spinnerstown Hotel, and Perkiomen Valley Brewery will be included in the festival, scheduled from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the borough. All three approvals apply only to the initial event, according to Solicitor Michael Peters. He said council will consider approvals for the June event at a future meeting.
Simple Days will operate at a table adjacent to its property, located at 231 Main St. The Spinnerstown Hotel, located at 2195 Spinnerstown Road in Milford Township, will operate out of a beer truck.
The Perkiomen Valley Brewery, located at 101 Walnut St. in Green Lane, will set up at a sponsoring property. During the meeting, municipal officials did not provide a location for the beer truck or the brewery's table.
Council considered a plan to outsource a portion of its code enforcement operation. Jim Fry, the borough's administrative manager and code enforcement officer, said he would like to prepare a request for proposal to seek candidates to cover part of the commercial code. The members took no action.
The members voted to spend $1,200 to purchase 20 chairs for visitors to the reconfigured meeting room at Borough Hall. Delivery of the Jericho Pew Chairs could occur within four to six weeks, according to John Dingler, who chairs the borough's property committee. He said the indigo-blue colored chairs will be stackable.
Council voted to promote one member of its roads department and hire a new one. Michael McMahon was elevated to road supervisor. He will earn $25 per hour, according to Alison Palmer, who chairs the borough's personnel committee.
The members also hired Tim Trate for the department. He will be paid $23 an hour during a nine-month probationary period. The rate could increase to $24 after that period. The employee could also be eligible for $1,000 in bonuses, according to Palmer.
President Douglas Criddle said council met in executive session for approximately one hour to discuss personnel issues. Member Angie Fegely did not attend the meeting which lasted 28 minutes.
Criddle announced that council will hold its next public meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday.
