How many annoying, last-minute campaign texts did you receive on Tuesday? How many last-minute campaign emails did you receive on Tuesday?
It was Primary Election Day and most people did their research and made up their minds before they went to the polls. And, many people completed and submitted their mail-in ballots before that.
Why do high-priced campaign advisors insist on deluging us with the annoying messages after we voted? Wouldn't it make more sense to get those messages out before voters make up their minds?
Yes, there may be a last-minute or breaking news flash that campaigners want to get out right before you cast your ballot. In most cases, it's a message that should have been delivered before voters made up their minds.
Many voters view those last-minute attacks as just that – last-minute attacks.
There are people who simply mark their blue or red ballots no matter what. It is 2024 and more voters are becoming more aware of the candidates and taking the time and energy to do their own research and select their candidates carefully. That constant last-minute haranguing probably won't change their mind.
You say that you're on the Do-Not-Call list so why am I getting these messages? Well, campaign calls and texts are exempt from the Do-Not-Call list requirements, so we'll just have to tolerate them. In addition, states allow access to voter data for election purposes so, if you are a registered voter, your information is on file.
You can always send the emailed message to your spam folder. Then any additional messages from that sender will go directly to your spam folder.
For those annoying texts, just block and delete. It may not stop you from getting them, but it may make you feel better.
