MontCo Detectives Investigating East Greenville Shooting
Written by Staff Report
2024-03-14

Less than a week after identifying the victim of the March 8 fatal shooting in East Greenville, an investigation by Montgomery County Detectives and the borough's police department remains active.

Derek Sherer, 42, died of a gunshot wound in front of his residence in the 200 block of Jefferson Street, according to information provided by Kate Delano, the director of communications for the office of District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.

At 8:11 a.m. on March 8, state troopers – who are assisting in the investigation – were dispatched to the residence for a domestic incident.

The shooter remained on scene and is cooperating with law enforcement. Delano noted there was no danger to the public.

A robust police response led Upper Perkiomen School District administrators to place the 4th & 5th Grade Center, located at 510 Jefferson St., on a secure status. Administrators lifted the secure status around 10:11 a.m., according to a separate message.

Police vehicles could be seen blocking Jefferson Street at West 2nd Street in East Greenville. The coroner arrived on the scene shortly after noon.

Officers from the East Greenville, Upper Perk and Marlborough police departments – as well as the county detectives, the East Greenville Fire Company and its fire police – responded to the scene as well as an EMS unit from Upper Perkiomen Ambulance..
