Parking Changes Coming to Quakertown
Written by Jennifer Frieze, Correspondent
2024-02-14

At its Feb. 7th meeting, Quakertown Borough Council unanimously approved the use of ParkMobile to replace the outdated parking meters.

Amendments included free two-hour parking at the triangle in the center of town, free parking on holidays and weekends, and parking vouchers for local businesses.

In addition, parking lots within the borough will be allocated for special events.

The borough will provide updated information on its website and social media platforms.

Under revenue and finance, two proposed resolutions were on the agenda for council discussion and action. One of the resolutions involved the tax settlement stipulations between Quakertown Community School District, the borough, the Bucks County Board of Assessment and properties owned by Quakertown West, Inc.

The properties are located at Tenth and Ninth streets and Constitution Drive. The information related to this resolution is public record. The resolution includes small numerical changes.

Council voted to have the solicitor review the resolution draft to ensure that the document does not impact the borough negatively as written. If the document needs revision, it will be reviewed at next month's council meeting.

A second resolution, John Rivers VFW's request for 2024 funding, was approved. Under the new resolution, the $500 contribution from the organization will go towards its rental fees in the borough.

In other news, residents living on 10th Street in the borough addressed the council with concerns about stormwater drainage. Tim Ritter and Charles Crossan stated that the alleyway in the back of their properties is well-maintained. However, there has been a significant increase in stormwater buildup and drainage issues. Water is pooling in yards and making it difficult to navigate their properties during heavy rains.

"We will take care of it," said Borough Manager Scott C. McElree.

The council will send the road crew out to address the situation.
