The Upper Hanover Board of Supervisors discussed outstanding issues regarding the former tax collector, Matthew Kells, at their meeting on a wet and windy Tuesday, January 9. Supervisors Dorothy Diehl and Ben Fiorito and solicitor Joseph Bresnan attended via Zoom.
Bresnan told the Board that Kells had filed for unemployment compensation even though the solicitor told him it was "contrary to law."
He also noted that Kells, who had resigned at the end of 2023, was "not cooperating whatsoever" with the township and the transition to new collector Jenni Wolfe.
Bresnan and Township Manager Anne Klepfer also reported on two tax collection checks that were outstanding for the past year. The township auditor had assured Klepfer that the township had all the tax funds that were due to it. These two checks were owed to CoreLogic, a property tax management firm.
Solicitor Bresnan said he would rather pursue the bond company that held the bond for Kells, and let them go after Kells for the payment, since the bond is still in place.
In other news, the supervisors voted to maintain the same committees and chairpersons as they had in 2023.
The supervisors voted to approve the deputizing of Diane Criddle, the East Greenville tax collector, as deputy tax collector for the township.
The supervisors also honored Dean Kresge for his ten years of service on the authority board.
