with nine straight wins – including six consecutive pins between 114 and 139 pounds – to take a 51-18 non-league victory on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
During the second bout of the match, Bennett registered a 3-1 victory over Aaron Kauffman. The sophomore scored the decisive takedown with 15 seconds left in the third period.
The Tribe (1-1) recorded its initial dual match win of the season by winning the final nine bouts. Gabe Tulone (114 pounds), Ben Godshall (121), Branden Rozanski (139) and Roy Cobb (145) each delivered second-period pins. Sean Murray (127) and Brandon Godshall (133) won in the first period.
Head coach Steve Adam described the quintet of Tulone, Ben Godshall, Murray, Brandon Godshall and Rozanski as "Murderers' Row." He said the opponents are well aware of their abilities.
"That's a lot of talent right in a row," Adam said. "There's a ton of athleticism."
Bennett (7-5) posted his second victory in his last three matches by defeating Kauffman, a returning regional qualifier. According to Adam, the sophomore's late victory excited the crowd and his teammates.
Bennett responded admirably since a loss on Dec. 6 that helped cost the Indians a 32-28 loss to Downingtown East on Dec. 6, said Adam, who described the wrestler as a coachable and a great listener.
"Drew is very resilient," the coach said of Bennett, who's still adjusting to moving up three weight classes from last year. "He's got a positive mindset. His athleticism and technique are improving every day."
Down 18-3, Kai Finger's forfeit win at 107 triggered the Indians' comeback. The teeth of their lineup then put the victory away.
Tulone (8-2) started the run with an early second-period fall over Michael Eder. Ben Godshall (9-4) defeated Thomas Saiber in 2:46.
Murray (11-3) delivered his team-leading victory late in the first period against Colin Pennington. According to Adam, the ninth grader has already made some adjustments, including body positioning.
"Sean is wrestling at a high level," the coach said. "He's very good on his feet, and he has shown some solid pinning combinations."
Brandon Godshall (9-2) needed only 44 seconds to defeat Quinn Farrell. Rozanski (8-2), who enters this week's non-league dual match at West Chester Henderson needing 12 wins to reach 100 for his career, decked Jordan Bebee 47 seconds into the second period.
Cobb (4-2) followed with an early second-period pin against Ethan Gatti. A pair of decisions capped the nine-match stretch.
At 152, Zane Saeger (4-4) defeated Dominic Antinucci 6-1. Gabe Sanfelice (4-2) followed at 160 with a 6-4 decision over Julian Mitchell.
