Township course as Connor Gehman, Jordin Dice and Pierce led a balanced attack in a 217-235 victory over Pottsgrove on Tuesday in the Pioneer Athletic Conference.
"This group loves to play on the course," head coach John Brittain said. "I need to get them to love to play" at other courses.
The Tribe (6-5 overall, 4-4 PAC) has won six of its last eight matches. A road victory over Phoenixville on Wednesday would go a long way toward clinching a winning dual meet season.
"We're playing like I thought we were capable," Brittain said. "I think there's more in there."
Gehman, Dice and Pierce each fired a seven-over-par 43 during the nine-hole match against the Falcons. Branden Rozanski and Braden Rieg both finished with 44 strokes.
According to the coach, a willingness by his players to adapt to visiting courses will determine if the Indians finish with a winning record and whether any of them can qualify for the District One championships. "You can't be considered a good team until you go on the road and shoot a respectable score," Brittain said.
After winning four consecutive matches, the Indians hit the road last week. Perkiomen Valley snapped its streak with a 200-223 victory on Thursday, Sept. 14.
Branden Rozanski fired a four-over-par 40 during the nine-hole match at Raven's Claw Golf Club in Limerick. Gehman shot a 44. Pierce (45), Owen Brozoski (46) and Rieg (48) also scored.
The following day, the Indians rebounded with a 224-231 non-league victory over Pennridge. Pierce shot a team-best 43 during a nine-hole match at the Indian Valley Country Club. Rozanski and Joe Carnesi each delivered a 44. Dice fired a 46, one shot better than Brozoski (47).
On Monday, the team delivered another solid effort in a non-league road loss to Quakertown. In a 203-211 loss at Fox Hollow, Rozanski led the team with a four-over-par 40 during the nine-hole match.
Brozoski finished with 42 shots. Pierce, Gehman and Dice each fired a 43.
Dice and Brozoski have been the team's most consistent players, according to the coach. He described them as the lineup's rocks. "They are the ones that I don't have to worry about," Brittain said.
Despite a mid-season swoon, Rozanski has recently returned to the top of the scorecard by averaging 41 shots over his last four matches. According to the coach, the senior struggled with his short game. "Branden is back to playing rock solid," said Brittain, who never removed Rozanski from the No. 1 slot. "He put in the time to get where he needs to be."
Though Rozanski didn't play well enough to score during four consecutive matches, he remained his team's biggest cheerleader, according to Brittain. The coach credited his player's leadership.
Brittain identified five players who have a good chance to qualify for districts during next week's PAC championships at Turtle Creek in Limerick. They plan on playing a practice round Thursday in advance of the Sept. 26 tournament.
