Annual Ag Daze Coming Sept. 9

            At Tuesday night's meeting, the Milford Township Board of Supervisors received a proposal from Valley Soccer Club to consider using township open space on Brinkman Road at Route 663 as a club facility with two or three soccer fields and parking.

            Valley Soccer Club is a non-profit organization that develops both intramural and travel soccer experiences for youth in the Upper Perkiomen Valley and surrounding areas.

            Brandon Corby, a Valley Soccer Club board member and coach, presented the club's request, explaining that they currently use fields as available at several area parks but are seeking a more permanent home. A longer-term plan would add a pavilion, restrooms, storage, lighting, and additional fields.

            "What we are looking to do is to try to get a central location in the area that we can actually have a facility for Valley Soccer that can also be used for the community," Corby explained.

            Corby added that the club could fundraise to develop a facility once a location is determined. Their commitment would begin with an engineering study to determine feasibility.

            Supervisors agreed to consider next steps in the club's plan. Township Manager Jeff Vey explained that considerations would include traffic, maintenance costs, permitting, protecting waterways, and the effect of the facility on neighboring homes.

            "I think if we take it in stages, we can get a handle on it," Vey said. "It's for the youth of our community. They are exercising, learning a sport, learning sportsmanship and we need that but we also need to respect adjoining property owners."

            On September 9, Milford Township will continue its annual tradition of celebrating agriculture with Ag Daze, an event that showcases local and regional agribusiness through family-friendly activities. During their monthly board of supervisors meeting Tuesday night, Vice-Chair Tom Courduff, who sits on the Park Board, reviewed preparations for the event that is growing in attendance each year.

            According to their respective websites, Montgomery and Bucks counties have over 28,000 acres of preserved farmland alone. Additionally, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture reports 7.3 million acres statewide.

            In addition to local agribusiness vendors, last year's event included hay rides, displays, and pumpkin painting. Ag daze will be held at Molasses Creek Park on Krammes Road from 10 am to 3 p.m.
