Post 184 to Miss Bux-Mont Playoffs
Written by Bradley Schlegel, Staff Writer
2023-07-05

Perkiomen's American Legion baseball team won't be competing in the Bux-Mont League playoffs, which begin Thursday. Manager Mike Fitzgerald cited a lack of players for his decision.

The Indians forfeited three recent games, according to Fitzgerald. He said they were slated to finish their regular season at home against Nor-Gwyn on Wednesday.

The manager said he made the decision not to compete in the playoffs. Fitzgerald said he didn't think the players deserved it, citing a lack of commitment.

Post 184 forfeited two games Monday to Quakertown and Doylestown and one on Tuesday to Plumstead. The official score of each game was 7-0.

According to Fitzgerald, Bux-Mont rules allow teams to forfeit one game per season without penalty. He said league officials offered to "bend the rules" and allow the Indians to participate. However, the manager declined the offer.

Meanwhile, Quakertown and Pennridge continue to battle for the regular season title and a berth in the Region 2 Tournament, scheduled for July 15-19 at Bear Stadium in Boyertown.

Quakertown Post 242 took on Nor-Gwyn on Tuesday morning and was scheduled to finish the season Wednesday with a doubleheader against Doylestown at Central Bucks West High School.

Perkiomen lost 10-7 to Chal-Brit on Sunday, July 2. Three days earlier, the team dropped both ends of a league doubleheader at Bonekemper Field.

On Thursday, June 29, the Indians lost 11-3 in the first game to Quakertown in six innings. In the nightcap, Pennridge rolled to a 9-2 victory.

Danny Qualtera and Tanner Clancy led Post 242's offense in its victory over Perkiomen. Qualtera, its leadoff hitter, drove in three runs. Clancy contributed two hits, scored two runs and drove in one.

Tommy Kolusky scored three runs and stole three bases for the Blue Jays, which took advantage of five errors by Post 184 that led to 10 unearned runs at Bonekemper Field.

Qualtera's two-run single in the second inning off Post 184 starting pitcher Sammy Zematis capped a four-run rally and staked his team to a 4-0 advantage.

Pelligrini's two-run single in the third inning highlighted a five-run outburst that gave Quakertown an 8-0 lead. Clancy added an RBI hit in the fourth inning.

Peyton Myers tossed five innings to earn the victory. Ty Everitt worked the sixth inning for Post 242.

The host Indians scored all their runs in the sixth inning. Jake Creneti delivered an RBI hit during the rally. Joshua Camacho's bases-loaded walk forced home a run.

In the second game, Pennridge Post 255 scored four runs in the first inning off Brandon Godshall. Pennridge, which took advantage of five errors, led 8-0 through 4 1/2 innings.

Godshall, the Post 184 starter, allowed 10 hits and eight runs, five of which were unearned. In five innings, he issued one walk and struck out four.  Jack Schramm surrendered one unearned run over the final two innings. He walked two and struck out two.

Ryan Ferdock led Post 184's offense with a hit and two RBIs. Borchelt, Gehman, Liam Merolla and Karson Schoenly each added a hit for the team which scored both its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
