The host Indians managed just six hits in a 10-5 loss last weekend at Bonekemper Field. Post 242 scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to secure its second victory of the day on Sunday, June 25.
The Blue Jays, who went 18 days between games, need to complete 10 games during an eight-day span, according to manager Bob Helm. The team has a shot at the top seed in the playoffs, which will likely include a first-round bye.
"Hopefully we can stretch out the pitching," Helm said. "I have confidence in them to deliver. We've been hitting the ball pretty consistently. At times, our defense has been shoddy."
Connor Gehman finished with a team-high three hits and scored two runs for Post 184. Joshua Camacho delivered two hits.
Camacho, a second baseman who made his season debut for Post 184, made an initial impact. Hitting in the No. 9 spot, he scored two runs and stole three bases.
Peyton Borchelt took the loss on the mound. He worked into the fifth inning, when the Blue Jays rallied for four runs to extend a 3-2 lead.
Peyton Mayers paced an 11-hit barrage with three hits and two runs for Post 242. Cleanup hitter Ethan Beil scored three runs.
Earlier in the day, the Blue Jays defeated Chal-Brit 15-0 in its first game since June 9. In the nightcap,
Mayers earned the mound victory in relief against the Indians, tossing 1 2/3 innings of relief. Cooper Natasin recorded the final four outs to earn a save.
A two-run double by Tanner Clancy capped Quakertown's decisive four-run rally in the fifth inning. Beil scored on a wild pitch to put the team ahead 4-2. Caleb Everitt crossed the plate on a passed ball to put the team ahead by three.
Mayers delivered an RBI hit in the sixth inning for the Blue Jays. They added two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning.
The Indians scored the game's initial run in the second inning. Camacho's two-out hit to left plated Gehman, who led off the inning with a line single to center.
Post 242 responded with three runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning off Borchelt to go ahead 3-1. With one out, Tommy Kozlosky singled to left, stole second and scored on Mayers' hit. An infield hit by Broxton Rahn plated Mayers from third base. With two outs, Pierce drove home Rahn with a single to right field.
Perkiomen pulled within 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth after Gehman reached on an infield hit. After moving to third on consecutive wild pitches, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Sematis.
Post 184 Manager Mike Fitzgerald, whose team lost 8-1 to Pennridge on Monday, said he hopes to use the remaining four league games to continue developing the players. According to the manager, the team's infield is set. Fitzgerald said Jack Schramm, who played first base against Quakertown, will end up in the outfield.
"This is a teaching season," the manager said. "This team is very young."
