Last Thursday, borough council voted to cancel the Trumbauersville Recreation Activities Camp (TRAC), the borough's summer recreation program. TRAC was scheduled to run through the month of July, providing a range of activities for children living in the Trumbauersville area.

            Council President Edward Child cited staffing issues as the reason the long-standing summer program was cancelled.  "We can't find anybody who wants to work TRAC so we are going to have to cancel it," Child explained.

            In public services business, Councilman Frederick Potter announced that a slight spike in TCE was detected in the borough's well #2. Potter explained that TCE, trichloroethylene, is a chemical used in degreasing agents. Potter noted that the level was very low but the committee will continue to take samples to monitor the situation.

            "If someone takes a five-gallon can of degreaser and dumps it on the ground, we are going to see it in our samples," Potter explained. "If it goes away, we are good. If it doesn't go away, we are going to have to track it down."

            Council authorized maintenance and repairs to well #3 to service the generators and maintain safe arsenic levels. Potter explained that, in addition to occurring naturally in soil, arsenic used in the past in pesticides or fertilizers remains in the soil and aquifer.

            In planning and zoning business, representatives from Faber Liquors are scheduled to attend the June 19 planning commission meeting. Potter explained that the company is exploring whether they could expand to include distilling at their Trumbauersville location.

            New Liberty Distilling purchased Faber Liquors last year. Currently, the Trumbauersville location is only used for bottling.

            "We need to understand what the impact will be," Potter explained. "They will be needing a lot of zoning hearing board permissions, put it that way."

            Council approved Mayor James Black's attendance at The Pennsylvania State Mayor's Association annual conference in July. Black was also scheduled to join members of council at the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs annual conference June 4-7.

            "There is no end to learning," Child commented.
