Hugh L. McNaughton
2023-05-31

            Hugh L. McNaughton, 97, formerly of East Greenville, PA, passed away

Friday, May 26, 2023 at Advent-Health Heart of Florida Hospital in Davenport, FL. He was the devoted husband to Fern T. (Wahl) McNaughton, sharing 70 years of marriage before her passing in 2017.

            Born in Scappoose, OR, he was the son of the late Hugh and Beth (Jardine) McNaughton.

            He enlisted in the Navy June 2, 1943 in Portland, OR. During WWII, Hugh served in the United States Navy at Kaneohe Bay, HI and later on the USS Saipan. The USS Saipan was commission July 14, 1946 at the Philadelphia Naval Yard and he was on board for its initial cruise to Pensacola NAS.

            Hugh was a machinist for the former Warren Helman, Inc. in Kulpsville, PA retiring in 1998 and prior to that, he was employed at Specialty Design in Oley, PA and Daystrom Inc. in Center Square, PA. He was a member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ in East Greenville, PA where he was a former Sunday school teacher and a former Deacon.

            He was also a life member of the Upper Perkiomen Valley Lions Club where he served as President for two terms and received the Melvin Jones Award and a member of the American Legion Post 184.

            Hugh is predeceased buy his son, Robert H. McNaughton as well as brother Thomas McNaughton of CA and sister Lovetta (Betty) McNaughton Hoffman of NYC and two Nephews

Surviving are, his daughter, Deanna, wife of Stuart Schoenly of Davenport, FL; three grandchildren, Reed Schoenly, Heather, wife of Kevin Jones and Marissa McNaughton; and three great grandsons, Tyler Schoenly, Jake Schoenly and Alexander Jones. Also, there are nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grand nephews.

            A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday June 12th at New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ 1070 Church Road, East Greenville, PA 18041 with a burial following in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

            Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA.
