Richard (“Rick”) D. Barber Jr.
2023-04-25

Richard ("Rick") D. Barber Jr., 64, of East Coventry, passed away suddenly and

unexpectedly on Sunday, April 23, 2023.  He was the husband of Sherri L. (Powles) Barber.

Rick was born in Norristown to the late Richard D. Sr. and E. Jean (Haldeman) Barber.

He was a 1977 graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School.  Rick began working in the restaurant industry at the early age of 13 and always dreamed of owning his own restaurant.

After serving as General Manager for Quakertown Ford and Mercury and then managing The Millside Inn, he realized his entrepreneurial dreams. Rick and his wife, along with friends and family, restored The Argus Inn of Sellersville and operated it from 1999-2005.  Rick semi-retired in Cape May, NJ where he built a house to entertain and serve as "pool boy" for family and friends. While there, he drove school bus for Middle and Lower Twp. School Districts.

After 12 years, Rick retired in 2017 and realized his retirement dreams by moving to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he and his wife spent their winter months with a community of life-long friends. Summers were spent at Boulder Woods Campground in Green Lane, PA, enjoying time with friends and taking golf cart rides.

Rick loved to entertain for people, always cooked for an army, and was known for his superb margaritas. While known to be quiet, thoughtful, and reserved, the relationships Rick had with family and his many close friends were meaningful and cherished.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Vance Rhodes and wife Alyson, of Red Hill; Ashley McClintock and husband Chris, of Pottstown; siblings: Kathy Stezenko and husband Ivan, of Barto; Jeff Barber and companion Liz Miller of Pottstown; grandchildren: Makena Rhodes, Kobe Amos, Brent Amos, Ryan McClintock and Gabriel Rhodes. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Barber.

Per Rick's wishes, no immediate services will be held at this time.

Online condolences may be offered at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com.

Donations may be made to Jefferson University for "hematology research," in memory tribute to Richard D. Barber, Jr.
